2005, Merlot "Pioneer Label"
The 2005 vintage was a challenging one—a late wet spring and a cool summer was saved by a glorious fall. The wines are generally more elegant and fruit-forward with less extraction and tannin structure that most other vintages. The lone exception is this Merlot sourced from Quail Run and Stepping Stone Vineyards. It is fully extracted with ripe flavors of blackberry, currants and dried fruits on a frame of firm tannins.
